Yujiro Nakamura

Yujiro Nakamura

Born in 1979, Yujiro ‘Yuji’ Nakamura joined a music club at his high school in Tokyo, Japan, in which he began his career as a drummer. Shortly after his graduation from high school, he attended Berklee College of Music, where he fell in love with jazz. During his days in college, Yuji continued to polish both his performance skill and musical talent, particularly by studying with excellent drummers such as John Hazzila, Joe Hunt, Kenwood Dennerd, John Ramsey, and John Lamkin.

By the time he graduated from Berklee in 2002, he had played in a house band at Wally’s, MA, since he was a sophomore. Yuji moved to New York City right after the graduation and started playing at St. Nick’s Pub and Cleopatra’s Needle’s, both of which are one of the most ardent venues all over the world.

Yuji’s career has been expanded as he has played at a number of large events such as Takatsuki Jazz Festival, Stanford Jazz Festival, Ear Shot Jazz Festival and Charlie Parker Jazz Festival. He currently performs vigorously in New York’s perky music scene.
